The Real Problem

That Isn't Negotiating. That's Discounting.

Someone says your price is too high. You ask what they would pay. That is not a negotiation β€” it is a discount with extra steps, and it teaches everyone that asking is enough.

Master Business Coach Dan Creed once walked into one of the largest advertising agencies in the world. The buyer looked at his proposal and said the price was too high. He said, β€œI'm sorry, I guess we can't do business” β€” and she stopped him on the spot.

The agency had researched it. Over ninety percent of salespeople drop their rate the instant it is challenged, with no conversation at all. So every buyer was trained to open with exactly that line. She told him she would probably buy from him β€” precisely because he had stood behind his number.

Negotiation is the process of achieving agreement through discussion. This course is how that is actually done.

The Curriculum

Twelve Rules, Four Episodes

Episode One

Everything Is a Negotiation

The three phases and the four preparation steps. Never accept a no from someone who cannot say yes. And how to read whether you are dealing with a driver, an expressive, a steady or an analytical β€” because approach them wrong and you never earn the right to negotiate at all.

Episode Two

Information Is Leverage

Price is rarely the real issue. Write it down, set it aside, and ask what else. The first negotiation is rarely the only negotiation β€” and whoever has the most information controls the room.

Episode Three

Trading and Concessions

Negotiate the little things first, lowest priority to highest. Know what you will give up before you sit down. Never lower anything without asking for something back. And why the walls have ears.

Episode Four

Knowing How It Ends

Your exit strategy and your walk-away point, both decided in advance. Then the four possible outcomes β€” and why only one of them is worth accepting.

Plus

Knowledge Checks & Downloads

A knowledge check after every episode, plus three printable resources including the preparation worksheet you fill in before you walk in.

Your Instructor

Master Business Coach Dan Creed

Master Business Coach Dan Creed has negotiated deals in eighteen and nineteen countries, with billion-dollar companies and with startups, across nearly two decades of coaching business owners and leaders. He is also Dean of GSDU.

He has been on both sides of it β€” including the day he walked back from the restroom mid-negotiation, glanced into the room next door, and found the entire opposing team gathered around a speaker listening to his own team talk.

His rule has not changed in all that time: do not do deals with people who do not want to work with you. If it is not win-win, walk.

Before You Ask

Common Questions

I'm not in sales. Is this for me?

Yes. Most of us negotiate constantly without ever calling it that β€” a raise, a contract, a car, a house, a dispute, or getting your kids home by midnight. The rules are foundational, which means they scale in both directions.

Isn't negotiating just haggling?

No β€” and that confusion is what this course exists to fix. Haggling is two people moving a number. Negotiating is achieving agreement through discussion, where both sides give something and both sides would work together again.

How long does it take?

Four episodes you can finish in an afternoon. The preparation worksheet is usable in the very next negotiation you walk into.

Do I need another GSDU course first?

No, it stands on its own. It does pair naturally with The Art and Power of Questions β€” that course is the questioning that gets you to the table with the information you need, and rule five here is that whoever has the most information controls the negotiation.

How long do I have access?

Lifetime. Come back to it before every deal that matters, for as long as you like.

Last Thing

Do We Have a Deal?

Great deals are available all day long if you are willing to make them great deals. Life is too short to fight about the price of something β€” and it is a game that starts with a conversation.
